Broken boys and charcoal smears
Splintered bones and bleeding ears
Drunken mistakes and burned lies
Cuts and rips and shoes untied
Deep down bruised and surface red
Yells and screams and left for dead
Flat black eyes and sirens loud
Mobs and riots and open crowds
Inside your head like a parasite
Burn all else to the ground at night
Watch it burn and watch them freeze
Everybody can but nobody leaves
Cause they all crave it and they know
When it gets too much you must let go
They watch as days turn into nights
And say keep your worries out of sight
But they lie and scream, sob and crawl
Fingernails on chalkboards and on walls
Metal screeching metal in a death cry
They call to God and they ask him why
But they cannot break surface tension
They looked wrongly for redemption
Drink and sleep to drown your sorrows
Blame yesterday and mourn tomorrow
Shatter glass windows with red bricks
Watch fire curl up in quick blurred licks
Smoke trails and vapor in the mirror
Wipe mist away and try to see clearer
Gather in groups and try to read lips
Inhale and exhale CO2 for confidence
But they digress and claim to not know
Smashing glasses into shards that glow
Shatter clear windows in piles of dust
Rub hot red skin and shake off the rust
Paste on smiles to hide their age
Pretend to be alright in a small cage
Collect broken wings and corpses dark
Have a feeling and tear out a heart
Take a running leap and try to fly
You go farther the faster you cry
Keep moving and judge every step you take
Enemies and allies that you just can't calculate
Gather puppet strings and curls in the dark
Try to console your badly bleeding heart
Freedom's close but you can't hide from me
Slow down, break down, and leave the dream.
